A new bus route will connect Icod de los Vinos and Costa Adeje faster, adding 500 extra places per day to Tenerife’s public transport network. The new Titsa service will strengthen connections between the two municipalities, offering a more direct alternative for journeys between the north and south of the island.
Faster link between north and south
The route, which launches on Monday 7 September under the number 464, will complement the service currently provided by line 460. It will run along the TF-82 to Santiago del Teide and, from that point, continue on the TF-1 motorway to Costa Adeje bus station.
The president of the Cabildo of Tenerife, Rosa Dávila, highlighted that the introduction of this new line “is a further step in the process of continuous improvement and growth of our public transport network. This year Tenerife has more than 160 million bus places, the largest offer in our history, and we want to keep progressing to offer ever more alternatives to the public.”
Dávila added: “If we want to move towards a more sustainable mobility model, we have to make public transport an increasingly attractive and effective alternative. That means continuing to improve connections, increasing frequencies, creating new lines where they are needed and expanding the capacity of our network to respond to a demand that continues to grow.”
Response to commuter demand
For her part, the Cabildo’s councillor for Mobility, Eulalia García, explained that “with the launch of line 464 we are giving a concrete response to the travel needs of many residents, mainly workers who travel by public transport between the north and south every day.”
García noted that “we continue to work and listen to the public to strengthen public transport wherever necessary. The launch of line 464 responds precisely to demand from users. Our objective is to adapt the offer to real mobility needs, reinforcing those points of the network where we detect the greatest demand.”
Service details and growing demand
Line 464 will operate from Monday to Sunday, with a more direct journey and a frequency of two hours. It will complement route 460, which runs Icod de los Vinos – El Tanque – Santiago del Teide – Tamaimo – Chío – Guía de Isora – Torviscas – Costa Adeje, and which has carried more than 240,500 passengers since January, representing growth of 4% compared to the previous year.
The creation of line 464 adds to the measures promoted by the Cabildo to continue strengthening the capacity of public transport in Tenerife. This year Titsa has an offer of more than 160 million places, the highest figure in its history, with the aim of further expanding bus travel options and promoting more sustainable mobility.
In three years of management, the frequency of bus services has also been increased, with 800 more daily journeys than in 2022, and 351 new vehicles have been added to the fleet. All this has been achieved while being more efficient and reducing CO2 emissions by more than 7.6%.
