Northeast Film Festival returns to Tenerife for third edition

Third edition confirmed for Tenerife’s northeast coast

The Northeast Film Festival is cementing its reputation in Tenerife with the confirmation of its third edition, transforming the towns of Tejina, Valle de Guerra, Bajamar and Punta del Hidalgo into exceptional film sets. Following the success of previous editions, which produced a total of 91 short films, the organisers are setting a creative challenge this year: professionals and amateurs alike must conceive, shoot and edit their films in just seven days, fully integrated into the local festival calendar.

Acting laboratory with Fernando Cayo

The major new addition this year is an educational component: an acting laboratory taught by renowned actor Fernando Cayo, known for his roles in ‘Money Heist’ and ‘The Orphanage’. This intensive 20-hour course will take place on 21, 22 and 23 July, serving as a professional warm-up to the start of the official competition. It reinforces the festival’s position as a benchmark for rapid filmmaking and audiovisual training in the Canary Islands.

Community involvement and public screenings

The event’s schedule is designed to involve the entire La Laguna community. The public screening of the short films made during the competition week will take place on 31 July at 7:00pm in Plaza de El Pico, Tejina. This preview will be the perfect litmus test ahead of the festival’s grand finale, which aims to boost the area’s cultural offering through the active participation of residents and visitors alike.

Charity gala with comedy and live performance

The much-anticipated Awards Gala will be held on 1 August at 6:00pm at the Teatro Unión Tejina. The event will have a strong fun and charitable focus, as it will be hosted by comedians Víctor Hubara and Nacho Peña, and will also feature a performance by the San Sebastián Cultural Association. Importantly, all proceeds from ticket sales will go entirely to Cáritas, supporting its projects for vulnerable people in the municipality.

Multidisciplinary jury and artisan trophies

The films will be evaluated by a multidisciplinary jury comprising actress and director Elisa Cano, photographer and director Enzo Álvarez, and philologist and multidisciplinary artist Laura Álvarez, a member of the Canary Islands Music Cluster. This team of experts will ensure the technical and artistic rigour of the awards, which include artisan statuettes designed exclusively by Imobach Molina.

Institutional support and island-wide collaboration

The project, led by Emilio González and produced by Multitrack, has institutional backing from the La Laguna Town Hall’s Festivals Department and the Government of the Canary Islands. The synergy between organisations is also evident in the collaboration with the International Film Festival of Lanzarote, which will invite the winners of the last edition to its 26th edition this May, fostering talent exchange between islands.

A motor for local culture and economy

The festival stands out for its strong roots in the local area, with the collaboration of local businesses and professionals such as Isla Media Productora Audiovisual, Darío López, and brands including Worten Canarias and Ron Guajiro. This network of support ensures that the Northeast Film Festival is not just a fleeting event, but an economic and artistic driver that highlights the scenic richness of the La Laguna coastline as a resource for the film industry.
