Motorcyclist in Critical Condition After Plunge
A 32-year-old motorcyclist was seriously injured on Saturday afternoon after falling down a ravine while travelling on the GC-42 road in the Gran Canaria municipality of San Mateo. The Canary Islands Government’s Emergency and Security Coordination Centre (1-1-2) reported the incident on Sunday.
Complex Rescue Operation
Firefighters from the island’s Emergency Consortium attended the scene to rescue the rider. The injured man, who sustained serious multiple trauma, was treated, stabilised, and evacuated by crews from the Canary Islands Emergency Service (SUC). In addition to the SUC, primary care medical personnel from San Mateo also attended the scene to assess and assist the victim.
Air Evacuation to Hospital
A medical helicopter evacuated the motorcyclist to the helipad at the Doctor Negrín University Hospital. From there, a basic life support ambulance transferred him to the emergency department, where he was admitted in a critical condition. The emergency operation also involved officers from the Civil Guard and Civil Protection.
Emergency Alert
The 1-1-2 emergency line was alerted to the incident at 7:22 p.m. on Saturday, according to the official statement.
