Overnight works on the TF-1
The TF-1 motorway in the south of Tenerife will face further traffic disruption from this Sunday, 25 October, due to resurfacing works being carried out by the Cabildo de Tenerife. The work will take place overnight and will require changes to traffic flow at several points along the route, particularly in the direction of Santa Cruz de Tenerife.
The works will begin at 10pm on Sunday and are scheduled to finish at 6am on Thursday 29 October. This is the fifth phase of the programme to improve this infrastructure and includes milling the pavement, laying a new layer of asphalt and renewing road signs. The works will be split into two sections, with disruption in the municipalities of El Rosario, Candelaria and Güímar, as well as changes to the accesses to the Güímar and Arafo Industrial Estate. Signed diversions and alternative routes will be put in place to keep traffic moving.
First section: kilometre points 8+800 to 11+900
The first batch of works will affect the section between kilometre points 8+800 and 11+900, in the direction of Santa Cruz de Tenerife. In this area a bypass will be set up allowing traffic to head towards the capital along one of the lanes of the opposite carriageway. This change will reduce capacity in the southbound direction, so drivers are advised to take extra care when travelling through the affected section. In addition, a diversion will be established along the Radazul service road as far as Santa María del Mar, in the municipality of Santa Cruz de Tenerife.
The works will affect junctions 10, for Tabaiba, and 11, for Barranco Hondo. Bus stops at Barranco Hondo (7198) and Tabaiba (7199) will also be affected.
Second section: Güímar and Arafo industrial estate
The second batch will run between kilometre points 18+500 and 19+500, around the Güímar and Arafo Industrial Estate. On this stretch the carriageway heading towards Santa Cruz de Tenerife will be closed and a temporary passage will be opened along the adjacent carriageway. Vehicles travelling towards the capital will have one lane available to continue their journey. The works will affect the accesses to the Güímar and Arafo Industrial Estate and junction 17 for Candelaria. There will also be changes at the bus stop at the Güímar industrial estate junction (7195) and at the El Socorro stop.
Advice for drivers
The Cabildo de Tenerife is advising drivers travelling through the affected sections to respect the temporary signage and follow the instructions of staff managing traffic. It also recommends planning journeys in advance, especially for those using the accesses affected by closures and diversions. The works form part of the conservation programme for the TF-1, one of Tenerife’s main transport routes, and aim to improve the condition of the road surface, driving conditions and road safety.
