Hiker rescued after fall at Caldera Blanca in Lanzarote

Emergency response in Caldera Blanca

A hiker had to be rescued on Sunday in the Caldera Blanca area, in the municipality of Tinajo, after suffering an accident while on a mountain route. The operation mobilised several emergency services, including a helicopter from the Canary Islands Government’s Emergency and Rescue Group (GES).

Details of the incident

The incident occurred at 2.11pm on 3 May, when the Emergency and Security Coordination Centre (CECOES) 112 received an alert reporting that a woman had suffered a leg injury and could not continue walking under her own steam. After receiving the call, 112 immediately activated the necessary resources to assist the injured person and ensure a safe evacuation from a difficult-to-access area.

Services involved in the rescue

The following teams took part in the operation: a rescue helicopter from the GES of the Canary Islands Government; the Lanzarote Consortium for Security, Emergencies, Rescue, Prevention and Fire Extinction; the Canary Islands Emergency Service (SUC) with a basic life support ambulance; and the local police.

The rapid coordination between the different bodies made it possible to locate the hiker and proceed with her air evacuation.
