According to information provided by air traffic control, the commander decided that continuing the journey could compromise the safety of the flight. “A group of about ten passengers had started a fight on board and the commander decided to return because of the danger it posed to the safety of the flight,” controllers explained. The order was clear: get back to Tenerife before the altercation could escalate further in a confined space with little room for intervention.

Police waiting on the tarmac

Air traffic control prioritised the aircraft’s return and coordinated with the airport to ensure police were present. The plane landed without incident and left runway 07 normally. “We expedited its return as much as possible while coordinating with the airport for the police presence,” controllers said when recounting the operation. The scene was both unusual and tense: an international flight that had just taken off returning to the same airport while a police team waited on the ground to intervene.
