EasyJet flight forced to divert after passenger brawl
An easyJet flight from Tenerife South to Liverpool was forced to turn back to the departure airport on Wednesday after a group of passengers started a fight on board. The pilot requested police presence upon landing, according to air traffic controllers.
Passenger fight broke out 30 minutes after take-off
Air traffic controllers reported on their X (formerly Twitter) account that flight U223352, travelling from Tenerife South to Liverpool, had to return to its origin just half an hour after take-off. Around ten people began fighting inside the aircraft, and the commander decided to turn back to Tenerife South to ensure the safety of the flight. Controllers at the tower prioritised the plane’s return as quickly as possible.
Rise in mid-air incidents condemned
Air traffic controllers have expressed regret that crews and passengers are increasingly having to endure such situations. One of the most recent cases involving a brawl mid-flight from a Canarian airport bound for the United Kingdom occurred when a group of people on a Jet2 aircraft flying from Edinburgh had to request medical and police assistance as it approached Tenerife South. That aircraft also required landing priority after a cabin crew member was reportedly assaulted.
