El Socorro beach in Los Realejos will play host to the 9th Gran Fiesta de los Vinos de Tenerife (GFVT’26) this Saturday, 12 September, an event that will bring together wines from Tenerife and Gran Canaria, food offerings and live music over eight hours. The festival gets under way at 6pm and runs until 2am, with a range of options for anyone wanting to head to the municipality during the afternoon and evening.

79 wines from 25 wineries

The celebration will feature 79 wines from 25 wineries, along with eight food outlets offering a total of 37 dishes. Among them there will be vegetarian, vegan and gluten-free options.

This year’s edition also brings in Gran Canaria as the guest island, with nine wineries belonging to the Gran Canaria PDO and 15 wines. Tenerife will be represented by 16 wineries, contributing 64 wines from the Valle de La Orotava, Islas Canarias, Abona and Tacoronte-Acentejo designations of origin.

Food, wine and live music until the early hours

The Gran Fiesta de los Vinos de Tenerife takes place this Saturday, 12 September, from 6pm until 2am at El Socorro beach. Throughout the day, visitors will be able to wander among the stalls of the participating wineries and food outlets and buy their drinks directly there. The offering will pair wines from the different designations of origin with the dishes from the eight restaurants taking part.

The programme will be rounded off with live music for much of the day: at 6pm, a performance by Vamos y la liamos; at 8pm, Sin cobertura; at 10pm, Stereogroove; and at midnight, the return of Vamos y la liamos. The event will therefore keep going throughout the afternoon and well into the early hours.

Free buses and extra parking

One of the key elements of the day will be the transport arrangements put in place by Los Realejos Council. Free buses have been laid on to make it easier to travel between different points in the municipality and the beach.

Services heading down to El Socorro will start at 5.30pm and run every 30 minutes until 10.30pm. They will depart from two points: the area around the municipal swimming pool in Realejo Alto, and the area next to the entrance to Parque San Agustín in El Puente.

For the return journey from El Socorro beach, buses will begin running at 7pm and continue until 2.30am, also every 30 minutes. As well as public transport, the municipality will provide a taxi service to help people get around during the celebration.

Those who need to travel by car will have several parking areas from which they can continue their journey by public or private transport. Among the spaces available are the esplanade at the Municipal Market, the free car park next to Los Realejos Council on Calle Taoro in Realejo Alto, the San Agustín sports centre and the esplanade at the top of the access road to El Socorro beach. The free car park on Calle Taoro will remain open continuously from 7am on Saturday, 12 September until 10pm on Sunday, 13 September.

Sustainability at the heart of the festival

The organisers have once again planned the celebration around sustainability criteria. The measures include the use of reusable tritan wine glasses and a ban on glass during the event. Individual bags will also be handed out for depositing waste, and anyone returning them at the designated points can exchange them for a gift.

The council is once again throwing its weight behind public transport through the free buses, with the aim of reducing journeys by private car and the carbon footprint associated with the celebration. The organisers want the event to go ahead without affecting the natural surroundings of El Socorro beach, one of the municipality’s main attractions.
