Tenerife set for rain and strong winds despite high temperatures

The weather in Tenerife will feel rather less summery this Friday, with rain and strong winds expected – though the mercury will still top 30 degrees. According to the State Meteorological Agency (Aemet), cloudy skies will predominate with weak and occasional showers in the northeast, with rainfall less likely in other areas of the northern side of the island.

Elsewhere, it will be mostly clear with occasional cloudy intervals in inland and southern areas, where isolated light precipitation cannot be ruled out. Temperatures will see little change, or a slight dip in mid-altitude areas (medianΓas), with lows of 24 and highs of 31 degrees.

Wind gusts and coastal conditions

Moderate northeasterly winds are forecast, with strong intervals along the eastern coastline, the far west and the southeastern flank of the metropolitan area, where locally very strong gusts cannot be discounted. Southwestern coasts will see light sea breezes.

Forecast for the rest of the Canary Islands

Across the archipelago as a whole, cloudy intervals are expected with a low probability of weak and occasional showers during the first half of the day and the late evening, with widespread clear spells opening up during the afternoon in Lanzarote and Fuerteventura.

In the north of the larger, more mountainous islands, cloudy skies will dominate with weak and occasional rain, though some clear breaks will appear during the afternoon. Elsewhere, it will be mostly clear with occasional cloudy intervals in inland areas of La Palma.

Temperatures will remain largely unchanged, or see a slight drop in daytime highs in the mid-altitude zones of the larger islands. Winds will be moderate from the north to northeast, with strong intervals in inland Lanzarote and the south of JandΓa in Fuerteventura, as well as on the southeastern and northwestern slopes of the mountainous islands, where locally very strong gusts are possible.
