Tuesday: Blue skies and summer heat across the Islands

Tuesday brings another day of classic summer weather to the Canary Islands. Expect plenty of blue skies and sunshine everywhere, with no major changes from recent days. The only real novelty: medium and high clouds will drift in during the afternoon over Tenerife and the eastern half of the archipelago.

General conditions

The warmest temperatures will be along the coasts, where thermometers could top 30°C. Inland and at higher elevations, it will be cooler.

Winds will blow from the northeast and north, generally light. On the island peaks, they will shift to the west. A notable exception: strong west-southwest winds will whip the Teide National Park above 2,000 metres, so anyone heading up Tenerife’s high altitudes should come prepared.

Out on the Atlantic, expect moderate northerly and northeasterly breezes, force 3 to 4. Between Tenerife and Gran Canaria, and off the southeast coast of Gran Canaria, conditions will be slightly rougher, with patches of force 5. The ocean will be mostly calm with light ripples, though there will be a one-metre ground swell from the north, and from the south along the southern shores of the islands with taller relief.

Island-by-island forecast

Tenerife

High clouds will appear in the afternoon, with local clouds possible in the west and south. Strong west-southwest winds are forecast in the Teide National Park above 2,000 metres.
