Sunday: clouds, cooler temps, possible drizzle

Sunday brings a significant increase in cloud cover across the entire archipelago. The best of the sunshine will be reserved for the high peaks and eastern coasts.

Clouds and possible drizzle

It will not be a washout, but don’t leave the umbrella at home just yet. The forecast points to the possibility of scattered, light drizzle or weak showers. These are most likely in the mid-elevation areas (medianías) on the northern slopes of the larger islands, the south of Tenerife, and possibly Lanzarote.

The clearest, sunniest spells will be found above 1,800 metres on the peaks of La Palma and Tenerife, across the southern half of Gran Canaria, and during the middle of the day in Fuerteventura and the east and southeast of Lanzarote.

Temperatures and wind

Temperatures will ease back a little, particularly inland and in the mid-elevation zones. That said, coastal areas will still see daytime highs hovering around or above 30ºC.

Winds will be light to moderate from the northeast. The trade wind pattern returns, meaning most beaches and swimming areas should expect waves of over one metre – so take care in the water.

Island-by-island forecast

Tenerife

Variable cloud cover with a chance of weak showers or drizzle in the northern mid-elevations. There is also a slight chance of a few drops in the south during the afternoon. The best of the sunshine will be up high, above 1,800 metres. Coastal highs could still touch 30ºC.

Gran Canaria

Thick cloud in the north with the odd weak shower possible. Head south for a sunny, summery day with pleasant temperatures.

Lanzarote

A cloudy start, but the east and southeast should brighten up through the middle of the day. A few drops of rain cannot be completely ruled out.

Fuerteventura

Mostly sunny skies around midday. Expect clouds to build before and after those clearest hours. A moderate trade wind breeze will keep things comfortable.

La Palma

Clear skies over the highest peaks (above 1,800 m). Elsewhere, low cloud and local development clouds will mix with sunny spells, along with the chance of drizzle or weak showers.

La Gomera

More sunshine than clouds in the south, where the mercury could hit 30ºC. The northern mid-elevations may see some light rain or drizzle.

El Hierro

Variable cloud cover with some sunny periods. An odd, isolated shower is not out of the question. Temperatures will be pleasant.

La Graciosa

Expect more clouds than sunshine, though it will feel summery. A light to moderate northeast wind will keep the air moving.
