The Salmar arrives on Tenerife’s coast
The Costa de San Miguel de Abona has welcomed The Salmar, a new four-star superior hotel complex. Acquired as a co-ownership venture by the established national holding company Grupo Fuertes and the Canary Islands-based group Satocan, the property will be managed by the latter. This marks Satocan’s long-awaited debut on the island of Tenerife, adding to its existing portfolio of complexes in Gran Canaria and Fuerteventura.
A design that blends with its surroundings
Situated on the seafront, the establishment has undergone an ambitious, complete transformation designed to harmonise seamlessly with its environment. During the process, its distinctive and beautiful white facade has been preserved intact, while the interior design has been developed with a markedly homely and welcoming aesthetic. The goal of the design is to evoke the warmth and comfort of those special nooks that anyone would wish for in their own home.
The cruise ship experience
With a privileged location overlooking a sheltered cove, a stay at The Salmar is conceived under the metaphor of travelling aboard a grand cruise ship. From its spacious and varied rooms—each with its own distinct personality—guests can personally enjoy the sound of the waves, the southern light, and have direct access to the promenade that connects San Miguel de Abona with the authentic pulse of the fishing village of Los Abrigos. All details of the complex and its booking channels are now available via the official website (https://www.thesalmar.com/).
A new home for San Blas
As part of the project’s respect for local identity, the iconic image of San Blas, the local saint, has found a new place of honour. To give the figure a prominent and far more accessible location for worshippers and visitors, it has been relocated directly to the hotel’s main entrance.
Camarote: A new dining experience
The complex’s culinary offering will soon be bolstered by a fundamental addition with the opening of the restaurant from its new partner, named Camarote. This dining space will offer a carefully curated menu specialising in grilled cuisine and seafood. To encourage integration with local life, the establishment will have a completely independent entrance from the seafront avenue itself, allowing direct access for diners.
Finding the right crew
To bring this environment to life, the hotel has assembled its crew through human and personable selection processes. ‘In traditional hospitality, you hire profiles; at The Salmar, we look for hosts,’ explains Javier Edodey, the complex’s director. ‘We care about people who can read a silence, who understand our rhythm, and who take care of the details naturally. We want to know if we are looking towards the same horizon.’ Just last month, Satocan’s recruitment team held a job dating event that brought together nearly 80 people who applied as candidates to form part of the new hotel’s team.
A strategic milestone for Satocan
The arrival in Tenerife represents a point of genuine pride and a strategic milestone for Satocan’s tourism division. Having consolidated a renowned track record in Gran Canaria and Fuerteventura with complexes of strong identity—such as Salobre Hotel Resort & Serenity, Gold, Marina Suites, Marina Bayview, the Salobre golf courses, and Buendía Corralejo Nohotel—the company is now bringing its proven hospitality model to a new coastline. The group’s history is marked by a meticulous study of each asset’s geographical environment, ensuring that the design of its products and experiences coexists in harmony with the local nature and adds real value to the daily life of the community.
The groups behind the project
