Playa Blanca beach closed after sewage spill
Yaiza Council in Lanzarote has announced the temporary and precautionary closure of the beach at Playa Blanca following a sewage spill caused by a blockage in a drainage chamber in the Parque Mediterráneo area.
Beach to remain closed until water is safe
The beach will remain closed to swimming and public access until microbiological analysis confirms the water meets the necessary health standards, the council said. The decision to keep the beach shut follows guidance from the Sanitary Inspection unit of the Canary Islands Health Service, which recommended maintaining the ban on access and bathing, along with appropriate signage and public information, until the results of water samples are available.
Water samples to be taken on Sunday
Water samples are expected to be taken on Sunday, once the period stipulated by the health protocol has elapsed, with analytical results available on Monday. If microbiological parameters prove favourable, the council will proceed to reopen the beach for bathing and public use.
