Guía Repsol unveils new Soletes selection for 2026
The latest edition of Guía Repsol’s Soletes has been released, incorporating more than 250 new establishments across Spain, each recommended by prominent figures from the worlds of culture, music, film, literature and television. Among the chosen venues in the Canary Islands are Casa África, located opposite the beach at El Roque de las Bodegas in Taganana, northern Tenerife, and La Raspa, a terrace bar in Arrecife, Lanzarote.
Toni Acosta’s Tenerife gem
Tenerife-born actress Toni Acosta has recommended Casa África as one of her favourite spots for enjoying papas arrugadas (wrinkled potatoes) with mojo picón sauce by the sea. In Lanzarote, writer Lana Corujo has championed La Raspa, located in the island’s capital. With this latest edition, Guía Repsol now boasts more than 5,500 Soletes nationwide.
What are Soletes?
The Soletes distinction recognises cafés, bars, restaurants, terraces, wine bars, ice cream parlours and informal food venues. First launched in the summer of 2021, the awards were created to highlight neighbourhood establishments that are accessible, affordable and full of character. These can be long-established businesses or newer projects that are beginning to make their mark.
Guía Repsol’s director, María Ritter, has said that this edition aims to champion small businesses where hard work goes into creating pleasant spaces for holidaymakers. In Tenerife, the Canarian presence in this selection comes with Casa África in Taganana, a coastal enclave on the Anaga coastline known for its dramatic seascapes, scattered hamlets and strong local identity.
A taste of the islands
Toni Acosta’s recommendation focuses on one of the most iconic dishes of Canarian cuisine: papas arrugadas con mojo picón. This dish, traditionally made with small potatoes boiled in salt water and served with mojo sauce, has become a culinary symbol of the Islands both within and beyond the Archipelago.
The second Canarian reference in this selection is La Raspa in Arrecife, recommended by writer Lana Corujo. The Lanzarote capital maintains a close relationship with the sea, and its culinary offerings are closely tied to the port, the urban coastline and everyday communal spaces. La Raspa’s inclusion in the new Soletes places Lanzarote within a selection that looks beyond high-end restaurants, also recognising bars, terraces and businesses with a strong local character.
National stars and their choices
The national selection includes recommendations from names such as Antonio Resines, Fangoria, Isabel Coixet, Marc Giró, Juan Gómez-Jurado, Toni Acosta, Arde Bogotá, Alcalá Norte, Miranda! and Lana Corujo, among others. Actor Antonio Resines has chosen the Joseín terrace in Comillas, overlooking the Cantabrian Sea. The band Arde Bogotá has selected several venues in Cartagena, Murcia, while Alcalá Norte has recommended a burger at Crítico in Madrid’s Ciudad Lineal district. Argentine group Miranda! has opted for Basque cuisine at Lorea, opposite the Alicante coast.
Six categories of discovery
The Soletes are organised into six categories: bars, counters and taverns; cafés and pastry shops; restaurants and eateries; wine bars and cocktail bars; ice cream parlours; and quality fast food or ‘fast good’ offerings. Unlike the Repsol Soles, which are associated with more ambitious gastronomic restaurants, the Soletes aim to highlight accessible establishments linked to everyday experiences. The selection combines businesses that have stood the test of time without losing their clientele with recent projects driven by young professionals.
