Tenerife unveils packed Pride Month programme for June 2026
The Cabildo of Tenerife, through its Insular Directorate for Equality and Diversity, has organised a programme of activities throughout June to mark LGTBIQ+ Pride Month. Running under the theme ‘Diverse Pride, Shared Voices’, the agenda will reach several municipalities across the island. The programme includes exhibitions, theatrical performances, film screenings, book launches, awareness-raising actions and official events. According to the island authority, the aim is to make affective-sexual, gender and family diversity visible, while promoting a more inclusive society free from discrimination.
Institutional backing for diversity and inclusion
The president of the Cabildo of Tenerife, Rosa Dávila, stressed that Pride represents an opportunity to assert rights, celebrate diversity and highlight the role institutions must play in building a fairer and more equal society. Dávila said Tenerife is an island committed to equality and respect, and argued that this programme aims to create safe, inclusive spaces open to all citizens. In the same vein, the Insular Director for Equality and Diversity, Patricia León, explained that the programme has been designed to be “diverse, participatory and decentralised”, with activities spread across different parts of the island. León stressed that each proposal in the calendar is intended to serve as a tool for awareness-raising and reflection, helping to move towards a society where everyone can live freely and without discrimination.
La Orotava to host Festivalullo 2026 finale
The mayor of La Orotava, Francisco Linares, welcomed the initiative and defended the importance of maintaining municipal involvement in protecting rights. The mayor warned against any backtracking that could lead to cuts in rights, and appealed to the responsibility of all administrations. La Orotava will host one of the final events of the programme: Festivalullo 2026, scheduled for 27 June in the town hall square, featuring musical performances, drag shows and various artistic proposals.
Prison project and exhibitions across the island
Among the planned initiatives is the ‘Pride in the Prison Centre’ project, which will run from 3 to 27 June at Tenerife II Prison. This initiative will include recreational, cultural and awareness-raising activities, with the aim of bringing the Pride Month message to that environment. The exhibition ‘Geography of LGTBIQ+ Resistance in the Canary Islands’ can be visited from 8 to 22 June at the Municipal Market of Puerto de la Cruz. It will then move to the lobby of the Cabildo of Tenerife from 22 June to 3 July. Also at the Municipal Market of Puerto de la Cruz, the exhibition ‘Trans Memory’ will be on display from 22 to 30 June. Both exhibitions aim to recover stories, make trajectories visible and recognise struggles linked to sexual and gender diversity.
Film screenings, book launch and theatre
The programme includes the screening and discussion of the documentary ‘Pink Triangles’, which will tour the municipalities of Guía de Isora, La Orotava, Tegueste and Tacoronte. The literary part of the programme will feature the launch of the book ‘Beyond the Night. Vampis Club’, scheduled for 17 June in the Noble Hall of the Cabildo of Tenerife. Among the stage productions, highlights include the performance of the play ‘A Drag is Born’ by Edu Díaz, alongside a performance by the Coral Arcoíris Tenerife. This event will take place on 19 June at the Auditorio de Tenerife.
Official acts and closing events
The official programme will include the reading of the LGTBIQA+ Pride Day manifesto, scheduled for 25 June at the Cabildo of Tenerife. The following day, 26 June, the Adelantado square in La Laguna will host the reading of the manifesto prepared by the Asterisco Network. That same evening, the Teatro Leal will host ‘The House of Show’.
