Canary Islands weather: Heat rise and strong winds on Monday

Stable weather and rising temperatures

The Canary Islands will face mostly stable weather this Monday, with temperatures once again on the rise. The State Meteorological Agency (Aemet) forecasts mainly clear skies across much of the archipelago, although cloudy intervals will persist in the lower areas of the north of the islands with more pronounced relief, especially during the night.

The temperature increase will be more noticeable in inland areas, where thermometers will continue to climb further. Indeed, Aemet does not rule out temperatures exceeding 30°C in parts of southern Tenerife and mid-altitude areas of Gran Canaria, on a day also marked by strong winds in several parts of the islands.

Tenerife and Gran Canaria forecast

In Tenerife, the forecast points to cloudy intervals in the north below 600-800 metres, with large clear spells during the central hours of the day. In the rest of the island, mostly clear or cloudless skies will prevail. Maximum temperatures will experience a slight rise, and locally reaching 30°C on the southern coast of the metropolitan area is not ruled out, while Santa Cruz de Tenerife will record values between 19°C and 26°C. The wind will blow moderate from the north and northeast, with intervals of strong intensity on the southeast slopes, the far northwest, and the mid-altitudes of southern Anaga, where locally very strong gusts could occur during the afternoon.

Gran Canaria will maintain abundant cloud cover in the north for much of the day, though with clear spells opening up in the afternoon. In the rest of the island, clear skies will dominate. Maximum temperatures will rise, particularly in inland areas, and Aemet forecasts that temperatures will locally exceed 30°C in mid-altitude areas of the southeast and west. The wind will also be strong on the southeast and western slopes, with the possibility of very intense gusts.

Other islands and sea conditions

Lanzarote and Fuerteventura will alternate between clouds in the north and east with large clear spells during the afternoon, while La Gomera, La Palma, and El Hierro will maintain cloud cover on the slopes most exposed to the trade winds and clear skies elsewhere. On all these islands, moderate northeasterly winds will persist, with intervals of strong intensity and possible very strong gusts in the most exposed areas.

The maritime situation will be marked by north or northeasterly winds of force 4 to 6, with moderate to rough seas across much of the archipelago. On the southern coasts, breezes will prevail and the sea will remain calmer.
