Loro Parque’s New Jaguar Cub Takes First Steps Outside

New Jaguar Cub Emerges at Loro Parque

The new jaguar (Panthera onca) cub recently born at Loro Parque is now being seen outside with its parents. The young animal, the offspring of ‘Tito’ and ‘Naya’, has been spotted exploring the enclosure and receiving care from its progenitors.

A Vital Birth for Conservation

This cub’s birth is part of the European Endangered Species Programme (EEP), coordinated by the European Association of Zoos and Aquaria (EAZA). The programme aims to maintain genetically healthy populations under human care to secure the future of threatened species.

The Parents’ Journey to Tenerife

‘Tito’ was born in December 2013 in St Petersburg and arrived at Loro Parque in October 2025 from Hodonín Zoo in the Czech Republic. ‘Naya’ was born in January 2017 at Martinique Zoo and joined Loro Parque in March 2019. Since ‘Tito’s’ arrival, the pair have shown extraordinary compatibility, displaying behaviours the animal care team had never before observed in the female.

A Bittersweet Start to Life

The pair gave birth to two cubs. Sadly, one was born very small and weak and died shortly after birth—an occurrence not unusual among wild jaguars and other big cats. The other cub, however, was reported by Loro Parque to be strong and active soon after its birth. The zoo has now shared the first images of this surviving cub venturing outdoors.
