Canary Islands flight costs could rise under ETS rules

President Fernando Clavijo has urged the Spanish government to fight for the Canary Islands to remain exempt from the EU’s Emissions Trading System beyond 2030. An executive report warns that applying the ETS fully could push up inter-island flight costs by 2-3 euros and flights to the mainland by 15-20 euros. The president warns of a “disastrous” impact on tourism, trade, and the socio-economic development of the archipelago.
