Tax Break for Classic Car Owners in Telde
The council of Telde in Gran Canaria announced on Monday that vehicles aged 25 years or more are exempt from paying the municipal road tax (Impuesto de Circulación) for 2026. This measure benefits a total of 13,582 vehicles in the municipality.
A Long-Standing Pledge Fulfilled
In a statement, the Town Hall specified that this measure was one of the first decisions taken by the current governing team. It was officially enacted in December 2023 after completing its administrative processing and publication in the Official State Gazette (BOE).
The Mayor of Telde, Juan Antonio Peña, highlighted that “this simple action fulfils this government’s commitment to ease the tax burden on our citizens, especially those who keep older vehicles.”
Automatic Application and Payment Details
The council explains that the exemption is applied automatically. Owners have not had to undertake any administrative process with Valora, the entity responsible for collecting this and other local taxes. “In this way, the bills issued since April already exclude vehicles over 25 years old, while the rest follow the usual schedule,” the statement underscores.
However, the local authority recommends that any resident who has received a bill for the tax in error should claim a refund as soon as possible at Valora’s offices.
The voluntary payment period opened on 6 April and will remain open until 8 June. This date is also the deadline for correcting any issues detected with the billing.
