Calling All Home Cooks: Santa Brígida’s ‘Cocinillas’ Contest
Do you have a flair for cooking? Now is the time to prove it. The Santa Brígida Town Council, through the Department of Markets, Commerce and Rural Development led by Councillor Carmen Juez, is searching for the best home cook in the municipality with the ‘Cocinillas de Santa Brígida’ gastronomic competition on 29 March at 11:00 am.
A Live Culinary Showdown
The Municipal Park, in the space adjoining the Santa Brígida Market, will be transformed into a major meeting point for food lovers for the morning. The event will combine culinary talent, local products and gastronomic spectacle. Participants will have a limited time to visit the stalls of the Santa Brígida Market and select the ingredients with which they must prepare their dishes, putting their creativity and skill to the test in a live cooking demonstration alongside chef José Luis Espino.
Celebrating Local Flavours
Throughout the day, residents and visitors can enjoy an event dedicated to taste. The programme includes a tasting of a chickpea stew (‘garbanzada’) tapa courtesy of ‘El Camino al Jamonal’, a proposal aimed at highlighting traditional cooking and the flavours linked to popular gastronomy.
How to Enter and Win Prizes
Those interested in taking part can email [email protected] until 24 March, the deadline set by the organisers to formalise registration for the contest. The competition will include a semi-final and a grand final, in a contest that will crown the best ‘cocinillas’ (home cook) of Santa Brígida. The organisers have established three cash prizes for the best entries: €300 for first place, €200 for second and €100 for third. The event is supported by the Cabildo de Gran Canaria.
