Quevedo Teases Major Gran Canaria Event
A cryptic message, of the kind singer Quevedo routinely shares with his fans in what has become a masterclass in communication and rallying support, promises more heat for Gran Canaria tomorrow, Monday. The singer shared three sentences and a map, which based on past experience with his announcements is enough to cause a stir: “Tomorrow something will happen on the Island. Until tomorrow, the kid is at home and in the sky eight stars will shine.”
Clue Points to Las Canteras Beach
The area referenced on the map of Las Canteras beach corresponds to the spot known as Playa Chica, with the surprise scheduled for 20:30 hours. This follows a major clue in Madrid earlier this month. A building on Calle Fuencarral woke up on 6 April adorned with a giant banner featuring a photograph of the Canarian singer holding a ‘baifo’ (a kid goat) in his arms.
Fans Decode the “Baifo” Clues
The image was accompanied by the different definitions and colloquialisms used in the Canaries for the word referring to a young goat, and a third meaning: “El Baifo. Pedro Luis Domínguez Quevedo.” This banner, and the fact that at the end of the video for his latest release ‘Ni borracho’ the singer appeared holding a kid goat, have led his fans on social media to link the coincidences with the imminent launch of a new album.
A Singer Rooted in Canarian Culture
This is not the first time the Gran Canaria-born singer has drawn on his roots to project himself to the world. The Canarian ‘pintadera’ (ceramic pendant) that hangs from his neck, which was the symbol of his 2022 tour, sold out within hours at the FEDAC (Fund for Ethnography and the Development of Canarian Craftsmanship) shop. His songs consistently name-check Canarian places, words, and festivals.
