Agaete erupts into celebration for La Rama 2026
The hugely popular and crowded Fiesta de La Rama in Agaete (Gran Canaria) has once again flooded every corner of the town with people and music since the early hours of Tuesday 4 August. As in previous years, the celebration is set to run for over twenty continuous hours without a pause, according to the town council of this island village.
“La Rama has been inaugurated with the iconic waking of the town at 5am, with which Agaete passes from night to day ready to dance non-stop until after midnight,” the municipal corporation said in a statement.
Mayor fires the starting pistol
From the front of Agaete Town Hall, the mayor, María del Carmen Rosario, was tasked with firing the starting pistol on one of the most special days in the town’s calendar. Accompanied by the sounds of Banda Clandestina, thousands of people jumped in unison with a single heartbeat as the traditional La Diana firework was launched at 5am, she confirmed.
Furthermore, she added that “the thousands of dancers have made it abundantly clear that this is a festival that is not losing any strength and is more than a tradition, becoming the epicentre of joy in Gran Canaria.”
