Warmer weather arrives
Thursday brings a noticeable rise in daytime temperatures across the Canary Islands. The eastern province and Tenerife will feel it first, with the rest of the archipelago warming up on Friday. Light Saharan dust will begin to drift into the southeast.
General outlook
Maximum temperatures will climb, reaching 27°C or more locally in inland and southern areas of Lanzarote, Fuerteventura, and Gran Canaria. Northern slopes of the western islands will see cloud, with a chance of drizzle until midday on La Palma’s northeastern mid-altitude zones. Elsewhere, expect plenty of sun with some high cloud.
A moderate to strong trade wind will blow on coasts. The ocean will be slightly choppy on southern coasts but rough elsewhere. An ocean swell from the open Atlantic will bring high waves of 2 to 3.5 metres to northern and western exposed coasts.
Island-by-island forecast
Tenerife: Sunny with some high cloud and pleasant temperatures on the southern, eastern, and western coasts. Low cloud is likely in the north and northeast, with a chance of early drizzle. Temperatures are on the rise.
Gran Canaria: The ‘panza de burro’ cloud layer will affect the north and the capital below 900m, clearing in the afternoon. The south, west, and highlands will be sunny with light calima. Temperatures rising to between 20 and 27°C. Moderate trade wind on coasts.
Lanzarote: Low cloud in the north and west, clear skies with light calima elsewhere. Temperatures climbing, with highs between 21 and 27°C. Moderate trade wind.
Fuerteventura: Mostly clear skies with light calima, bar some morning low cloud. Warmer temperatures, with local maxima of 27 to 28°C inland.
La Palma: Low cloud in the north and east, with a chance of drizzle in mid-altitude areas. Mostly clear skies elsewhere. Pleasant temperatures with trade winds on coasts.
La Gomera: Plenty of cloud in the north and parts of the highlands, with a few spots of rain possible in the early hours. The south and capital will see some high cloud. Moderate trade wind.
El Hierro: Cloudy skies in the north and around the capital. Sunnier in the south and highlands with intervals of high cloud. Slight rise in temperatures.
La Graciosa: A mix of cloud and clear spells with light calima. Slight temperature rise, with a high of around 24°C in Caleta de Sebo and a moderate northeast wind.
