tuesday heatwave peaks canary islands

Tuesday: heatwave peaks across the Islands

The second heatwave of the summer is peaking across the Canary Islands this Tuesday. The hottest days are today and Wednesday, with a gradual cooldown expected from Thursday onwards.

Skies are mostly clear across the archipelago. A few scattered clouds linger at low altitudes – around 400 metres – over the northern slopes of the mountainous islands and along the north and west of the eastern islands. These are expected to clear quickly. A layer of light calima (Saharan dust) is blurring the horizon in many areas, but it remains moderate.

Temperatures are climbing. Inland areas of Gran Canaria could hit or exceed 40°C. Fuerteventura, Lanzarote, and parts of southern Tenerife’s mid-altitude zones may also come close. The coast remains the coolest spot, both day and night.

Winds are generally light, though a northerly breeze could pick up in the early morning hours. Ocean conditions: rough seas on northern coasts with waves under one metre; calm conditions on sheltered southern shores. The channels between islands are also rough, with waves around one metre.
