Canary Islands airports set for busy May bank holiday getaway
A total of 1,159 flights are scheduled across the Canary Islands this Friday, marking the start of the May bank holiday weekend, according to data from Aena reported by Europa Press. The figure represents a slight increase on the same period last year, with three additional operations.
Gran Canaria leads the way
Gran Canaria Airport will see the highest volume of traffic, with 338 flights planned. Of these, 239 are domestic services and 99 are international. Tenerife’s airports follow closely behind: Tenerife South will handle 198 flights — 168 international and 30 domestic — while Tenerife North will manage 235 connections, the vast majority being inter-island services with just one international route.
Lanzarote and Fuerteventura also busy
Elsewhere in the archipelago, Lanzarote is set to see 176 flights (98 domestic and 78 international), and Fuerteventura will handle 116 operations, split between 62 domestic and 54 international services. Among the smaller islands, La Palma has 68 flights scheduled — 64 domestic and four international — while El Hierro will manage 20 connections and La Gomera eight, all of which are inter-island services.
