Burger Fest heads to La Orotava with free entry

La Villa de La Orotava is set to become one of the Canary Islands’ key gastronomy hotspots on 7 and 8 August with a new edition of Burger Fest Canarias. The event, held at the Lercaro car park, will bring together burger vendors from across the islands over two days, alongside a live music line-up and a range of family-friendly activities. Entry is free, with the festival combining burger tasting made from local produce with concerts, DJ sets and various complementary activities. Organisers hope to turn the festival into a space for socialising where gastronomy and entertainment share the spotlight.

Local produce at the heart of the festival

One of the main draws of Burger Fest Canarias will be the presence of restaurants and food trucks from different parts of the Archipelago, each presenting their own burger recipes made with locally sourced ingredients. According to the organisers, the event’s philosophy is to promote the use of local and zero-kilometre products, relying on suppliers and producers linked to the municipal markets of the towns hosting each edition. This commitment to nearby ingredients aims to showcase Canarian agri-food production and bring it closer to the public through gastronomic proposals that blend traditional recipes with new culinary trends.

New burger competition with cash prizes

As a novelty for this first edition in La Orotava, the festival will introduce a gastronomic contest to choose the best burger of the event. Judging will be carried out through a blind tasting in which all the burger vendors present at the festival will take part. The competition will award cash prizes of €500 for the winner, €300 for second place and €150 for third. In addition, the public will be able to vote through the platform set up by the organisers, with a €150 prize going to the attendees’ favourite burger.

The establishment that takes first place will also secure a direct spot in the grand final scheduled for 2027 at the Recinto Ferial in Santa Cruz de Tenerife, where the winners of the various editions held across the Canary Islands will compete against each other.

Live music line-up across both days

The gastronomy will be complemented by a musical programme designed to keep the festival buzzing throughout. On Friday 7 August, music kicks off at 6pm with a performance from Roger S Morgan, who will be on stage until 9pm. Juana La Cubana then takes over, with her set running until midnight. On Saturday 8 August, the programme starts at 2pm with MCR Selector, playing until 6pm. Next up is Tana Sandoval between 6pm and 8pm, before a live concert from the group Ni 1 Pelo de Tonto, scheduled from 8pm to 9.30pm. The festival will close with La Maldita, who will deliver the final concert of this edition between 9.30pm and midnight.

Something for every taste

The organisers have also planned a food offering to suit different audiences. In addition to the participating burger joints, the venue will feature a vegan zone, an area with 100 per cent gluten-free options and a space dedicated to desserts and sweet treats. The offer will be rounded off with a selection of craft and imported beers, broadening the choices available to attendees over the two days.

Council backing for the event

During the presentation, mayor Francisco Linares highlighted the value of La Orotava hosting an event of this nature, arguing that such initiatives help attract visitors and combine new gastronomic trends with the promotion of local products. Meanwhile, the councillor for Commerce, Deisy Ramos, noted that the festival represents a proposal that brings together food, leisure and music and could boost economic activity in the municipality. The council frames this initiative within its efforts to support local trade and the hotel sector, while reinforcing La Orotava’s image as a venue for events of interest to both residents and visitors.

Burger Fest Canarias was founded in 2019 and, according to figures provided by the organisers, has already held more than 30 editions in different municipalities across the Archipelago, attracting close to one million visitors since its inception. The La Orotava edition is supported by La Orotava Town Council, the Government of the Canary Islands and the Comercio de Canarias initiative, as well as various entities and companies involved in organising the event.
