Arrecife to smash cruise passenger records in 2026

Arrecife set to surpass 700,000 cruise passengers in 2026

Arrecife City Council in Lanzarote has announced that the Port Authority of Las Palmas (APLP) forecasts the city will surpass the 700,000 cruise passenger mark during 2026. The capital’s council revealed the figures in a statement, adding that the mayor, Yonathan de León, has highlighted the significant momentum the city is experiencing as a cruise tourism destination. He stated that this reflects the success of the initiatives undertaken during his term of office.

Lanzarote becomes a home port for cruise lines

Specifically, the mayor attributed this surge in passenger numbers partly to Lanzarote becoming a home port for shipping companies scheduling cruises in the waters of the Canary Islands. During the first four months of 2026, the Port of Arrecife received a total of 394,086 passengers, representing an 18.57% increase compared to the same period last year, when 332,363 cruise passengers visited.

Economic boost for local businesses

Finally, the council emphasised that cruise tourism underpins the local economy of the municipality, with many shops and hospitality businesses seeing increased revenues during the cruise season.
