Man rescued from the sea at Grandes Playas with serious drowning symptoms
A 61-year-old man was rescued this Sunday with symptoms of serious drowning at Grandes Playas, in the municipality of La Oliva, Fuerteventura. Lifeguards in the area initially intervened to pull the man from the sea, and he was subsequently treated by health services.
Alert received at around 10:48am
The incident occurred at around 10:48am, when the Canary Islands Government’s Emergency and Security Coordination Centre (CECOES) 112 received an alert reporting that beach lifeguards had rescued a person in difficulty from the water.
After receiving the alert, the Canary Islands Emergency Service (SUC) dispatched a medicalised ambulance and a basic life support ambulance to the scene to provide assistance to the affected person. On arrival, health personnel continued to treat the man, who was showing symptoms of serious drowning. After being stabilised, he was evacuated by medicalised ambulance to the General Hospital of Fuerteventura.

The response also involved officers from the Local Police, who assisted with the operation deployed in the area.
