A new home for the arts in Candelaria
The arts in Candelaria are set to gain a brand-new space for expression and enjoyment. Work on the future Municipal Auditorium is advancing at a steady pace, with the latest certification of works, dated 31 July 2026, confirming that 23.16 per cent of the project has now been completed.
The project, promoted by Candelaria Town Hall and financed largely by the Cabildo of Tenerife, represents an investment of €8,464,189.55. Located at the former Los Menceyes bus station, the development comprises a multidisciplinary building designed to host a wide range of artistic activities, including music, theatre, dance, film screenings, educational programmes, concerts and group rehearsals.
A long-awaited dream for local cultural groups
The main hall will have capacity for 500 spectators and will feature a stage with full fly tower facilities. “We have worked hand in hand with the town’s bands and cultural groups to ensure we meet the current and future needs of local artists,” explains the Mayor of Candelaria, Mari Brito.
This project represents a significant step forward for the enjoyment of culture in the area, as the coastal municipality previously had no venues capable of accommodating more than 150 people. As a result, cultural activity will now be able to reach a wider audience and host a greater number of events.
Building momentum on site
Among the most recent advances on site, all of the roof trusses for the stalls area have now been installed. These structural elements form a network of triangles created by bars joined at nodes. The next milestone is scheduled for the first week of September, when the truss above the stage is due to be put in place.
The complex will also include dressing rooms, changing areas and a rehearsal room, along with a car park accessible from Calle Crugiola. The music-specific area will feature six instrument rooms, three music and movement classrooms, a library, a multi-purpose room, a percussion room and administrative spaces.
Complex work in the heart of the municipality
The Mayor has highlighted the pace of the works despite the complexity of carrying out a project of this nature in the very centre of the municipality. Although “it is a complex operation, in the heart of the town”, Brito stresses that “it is an investment in the future of Candelaria”, as it will contribute significantly to boosting cultural activity in the area.
The project, which initially envisaged a construction period of 24 months from the start of works in July 2025, has been extended by four months, a move approved unanimously at the municipal plenary session in June. The new projected completion date for the works is now set for 16 November 2027. At the same plenary session, a variation order of €18,978.27 was also approved, as requested by the contracting company.
“This auditorium is a dream long cherished by our cultural groups and by the whole community, and seeing it already underway is a tremendous joy,” Brito concludes.
