Tenerife steals the spotlight in Netflix’s Oasis
Some series merely use a landscape as a backdrop; others allow the setting to become a character in its own right. That is precisely the case with Oasis, the young adult thriller on Netflix that has been among the platform’s most-watched titles since its release in July. Although the story unfolds at an exclusive luxury resort where a mysterious disappearance triggers a police investigation, the real star of the show is Tenerife, the island where filming took place entirely between July and November 2025.
Today, the production ranks sixth among the most-watched series on Netflix in Spain and has spent 38 days within the daily top 10. While it is not currently featured in the global daily top 10, it did spend four consecutive weeks in the Netflix worldwide top 10 for non-English-language series—an undeniable sign of its success. From the outset, Netflix emphasised that the series relies on “the visual magnetism of the island landscape” to heighten the tension of the story.
Why Netflix chose Tenerife
The streaming giant selected Tenerife for the vast variety of settings it offers within just a few kilometres—all of which can now be seen on screen: volcanic beaches, cliffs, panoramic roads, historic villages, and hotels capable of doubling as an exclusive resort complex. At the heart of the story is the Gran Meliá Palacio de Isora in Guía de Isora, which here becomes the fictional Oasis Infinity resort. Its gardens, infinity pools, and direct access to the sea serve as the backdrop for much of the action, making the hotel easily recognisable to anyone from Tenerife who has visited the area.
The beach that accompanies the protagonists from the very first episode is equally real. It is La Jaquita in El Médano, where some of the most important scenes of the plot unfold. Its dark sand and distinctive coastal scenery offer a very different image from the Caribbean beaches that usually feature in this type of international production.
A tour of Tenerife’s most iconic spots
The journey continues through some of the island’s most recognisable locations. The port of Garachico appears as a meeting point for several characters, while the Los Gigantes cliffs provide some of the series’ most spectacular images during a boat excursion. These are joined by other spaces that have previously been used as film sets for other productions, such as the El Porís lighthouse and the old leper colony, both of which have become well known on television for their abandoned appearance—so sought after in mystery dramas.
Hidden gems on the road
The road journeys in the series are no accident either. Those who know Tenerife well can spot several stretches of the TF-12, which crosses the Anaga massif; the TF-121, the road from Igueste to San Andrés; and the TF-42, near the Mirador del Guincho. These routes, travelled daily by many Tenerife drivers, take on a cinematic quality in Oasis thanks to the photography and the island’s characteristic light—the same light that has attracted so many major productions over the years.
Watching Oasis therefore becomes a treasure hunt for those eager to discover every single location where the series was filmed. The vegetation, the palm trees, the volcanic origin of the terrain, and the unmistakable colour of the ocean constantly betray that the action is set in the Canary Islands—even though the series never places Tenerife at the centre of the story, nor even mentions it by name.
Tenerife: Europe’s natural film studio
It is no coincidence that Bambú Producciones, the production company behind the series, chose Tenerife to build this universe. The island has spent years establishing itself as one of Europe’s great natural film sets, thanks to its diversity of landscapes, good transport links, the expertise of local crews, and tax incentives that have attracted dozens of national and international productions. In this way, Oasis sells an exclusive holiday paradise full of secrets, but also unexpectedly offers a tourist route through some of Tenerife’s most emblematic corners.
Cast and crew
The series was created by Ramón Campos, Jon de la Cuesta Olaizola, Javier Chacártegui Horrach, David Orea Arribas, and Ricardo Jornet Gallego. It stars Ana Garcés (La Promesa), Tomy Aguilera (Welcome to Eden), and Victoria Kantch (For Your Dead). The cast also includes Berta Castañé (Follow My Voice), Manel Duarte, Ada Molina, Alex Mola (La Calima), Cande Méndez, Laura Simón (Mar Afuera), Jan Buxaderas (All Sides of the Bed), Amanda Palomino (Gastronauts), and Blas Polidori (Society of the Snow), who bring to life the guests and staff of this exclusive resort. The production also features Paco Tous and Verónica Sánchez in supporting roles.
