Sunday: second heatwave of the summer arrives

Heat takes hold across the Islands

The second heatwave of the summer is officially underway. Sunday brings a noticeable rise in temperatures, especially across the midlands and summits of the central islands, as well as Fuerteventura. The State Meteorological Agency (AEMET) has activated a yellow warning for Gran Canaria and Fuerteventura, where highs could reach 35ºC.

It will be mostly sunny, though a light haze of calima will linger over the eastern islands and spread to Tenerife by the afternoon. A moderate north wind will blow across the archipelago, picking up in exposed areas and gusts of 50–60 km/h are expected around Jandía (Fuerteventura) and the far east and west of the Islands.

At sea, conditions remain mixed: rough oceans on exposed coasts and open Atlantic, with waves between 0.5 and 1.5 metres. Calmer conditions elsewhere.
