The trade winds are back in force this Sunday, bringing moderate to strong winds across the Canary Islands. Gusts could locally exceed 70 km/h on the southeast and northwest slopes, particularly in Tenerife and Gran Canaria. The northern sides of the mountainous islands will see plenty of cloud, with a chance of light drizzle at dawn and dusk.
General conditions
Cloud cover will dominate the northern slopes of the mountainous islands below 900–1,100 metres, especially in Tenerife, Gran Canaria, La Palma, and La Gomera. Some occasional light drizzles are possible in the midlands during the early morning and evening. The western sides of Fuerteventura and Lanzarote will also see variable cloud. Elsewhere, expect mostly clear or partly cloudy skies.
Maximum temperatures will drop slightly along the coasts of La Palma, Tenerife, and Gran Canaria, while rising a little in the highlands. Minimums will increase in the southern and eastern midlands of La Gomera, Tenerife, and Gran Canaria, as well as inland areas of Fuerteventura. Overall, temperatures feel typical for the season.
The moderate trade wind will strengthen to strong in exposed areas, especially southeast and northwest slopes, where gusts of over 70 km/h are likely. The southern facade of Tenerife’s metropolitan area cannot be ruled out either. Southern coasts of the mountainous islands will experience lighter ocean breezes.
At sea, the Atlantic will be rough in northern open waters and off the western coasts of Fuerteventura and Lanzarote, with waves reaching up to 2 metres. More sheltered southern coasts will see moderate ocean conditions.
