Migrant Boat Arrives at El Hierro Port
A boat carrying 82 migrants, including one child, arrived under its own power at the port of La Restinga on the island of El Hierro this Saturday, emergency services have informed EFE. One of the occupants of the vessel was taken to a hospital for treatment.
Eight-Day Voyage from West Africa
The migrants told emergency services they had been at sea for eight days after departing from Kartong in Gambia. The group is comprised of nationals from Gambia, Ivory Coast, Guinea, Senegal, and Mali.
No Maritime Rescue Intervention Required
The boat reached the port of La Restinga around 16:30 on its own, meaning no intervention from Spain’s Maritime Rescue service was necessary.
