Tenerife temperatures to drop after heatwave

Cooler conditions on the way

After days of sweltering heat, Tenerife is finally set for a respite. According to the State Meteorological Agency (Aemet), Monday 10 August will bring a clear drop in temperatures, with thermometers ranging between 22C and 28C. The cooler conditions will come as welcome relief following several days when temperatures comfortably exceeded 30C.

What to expect across the island

The forecast indicates temperatures will fall slightly in inland areas, particularly in the mid-altitude zones facing east, south and west, where localised readings of 30C cannot be ruled out. The northeast of the island will see cloudy skies below 1,000-1,100 metres, with broken cloud elsewhere in the northern part of the island and the possibility of light drizzle at the start and end of the day. Elsewhere, conditions will be mostly clear or sunny.

Winds will be moderate from the northeast, with strong intervals on the southeast slopes, the far northwest and the southern flank of the metropolitan area, where occasionally very strong gusts cannot be ruled out. Light breezes are expected on the west coast.

Rest of the archipelago

Across the Canary Islands as a whole, cloudy skies are expected to dominate in the north of the mountainous islands, with scattered light drizzle possible during the night, as well as in the north and west of the easternmost islands, with clear spells during the central hours of the day.

Temperatures will see little change in the north and slight falls in the south, especially in inland areas. Moderate northeast winds with strong intervals are expected, particularly during daylight hours, on the southeast and northwest slopes of the mountainous islands and south of Jandía in Fuerteventura, where occasionally very strong gusts cannot be ruled out, most likely in Gran Canaria.
