This Sunday, 19 April, sees a blanket of Saharan dust across the Canary Islands, bringing hazy skies and very warm conditions, particularly inland. The most significant weather warning is for powerful wind gusts on the highest peaks.
General outlook
The day will see intervals of medium and high cloud, tending to mostly clear skies. The calima will be significant across mid-altitude and summit areas, and will also affect coastal regions on the eastern islands. Morning temperatures will be cool, but daytime highs are warm and typical for the season, potentially reaching 34°C in some southern and western interior zones. A light to moderate easterly wind will blow on coasts, shifting to a westerly direction later. In mid-altitude and summit areas, expect a moderate to strong southerly wind with very strong gusts likely, exceeding 90 km/h on the peaks of Tenerife and La Palma. The Atlantic will be calm, with waves not exceeding 1.5 metres.

Skies with medium and high cloud, especially in the south and southeast. Mostly clear elsewhere with calima affecting mid-altitudes and summits. An easterly wind will shift westerly by the late afternoon and evening. Probable very strong gusts on the peaks. Maximum coastal temperatures between 24°C and 34°C.
Lanzarote
Skies with medium and high cloud. Widespread calima. An easterly wind with periods of strong gusts in the west during the morning. Temperatures in Arrecife will range from 20°C to 29°C.
Fuerteventura
Intervals of medium and high cloud. Significant calima. A moderate easterly wind with periods of strong gusts in the west during the morning. Warm temperatures, with maximums between 24°C and 34°C.
La Palma
Intervals of medium and high cloud in the north and west. Mostly clear elsewhere. Significant calima, most notable in mid-altitudes. A westerly wind with strong gusts not ruled out on the peaks. The maximum temperature in Santa Cruz de La Palma will be around 25°C.
La Gomera
Medium and high cloud, particularly in the west. Calima and a moderate westerly wind. Warm maximum coastal temperatures between 23°C and 28°C.
El Hierro
Mostly clear skies. Widespread calima. A light to moderate westerly wind. Warm temperatures, with coastal maximums between 22°C and 26°C.
