Hiker airlifted from Roque Nublo after suffering leg injury
The accident occurred around midday this Tuesday in an area close to Roque Nublo, one of Gran Canaria’s foremost natural and tourist landmarks. After receiving the alert, the Canary Islands 112 Emergency and Security Coordination Centre activated the rescue operation.
Emergency teams reach the injured walker
Rescuers from the Canary Islands Government’s Emergency and Rescue Group (GES) were dispatched to the scene, where they managed to reach the hiker and provide initial assistance. The GES crew then winched the woman aboard the helicopter to evacuate her from the area and transfer her to the helipad at Doctor Negrín University Hospital of Gran Canaria, in Las Palmas de Gran Canaria.
Moderate injury diagnosed at hospital
Once at the hospital, medical staff from the Canary Islands Emergency Service (SUC) attended to the patient and diagnosed a moderate injury to a lower limb, barring complications. Following the initial medical assessment, the hiker was taken to the hospital’s emergency department to continue receiving treatment.
Spotlight on mountain rescues in Gran Canaria
The rescue once again highlights the work of emergency teams in the mountain areas of Gran Canaria, particularly at locations popular with walkers such as Roque Nublo, situated in the municipality of Tejeda.
