Sunny skies and a touch of desert dust
Friday is shaping up to be a mostly clear and warm day across the Canary Islands, with a light haze of Saharan dust lingering over the southern slopes and highest peaks. High-altitude clouds are expected to drift in from midday, adding a milky filter to the sunshine.
Temperatures will edge slightly higher, both during the day and overnight — though the most noticeable rise will arrive on Saturday. Winds will blow from the north at a moderate pace, with stronger gusts at exposed coastal points and the Tenerife metropolitan area late in the day. The Atlantic will be rough along northern coasts and a little choppier in the south.
Island-by-island forecast
Tenerife
High clouds will move in from the southwest, mixing with a light layer of calima. Low cloud cover will descend in altitude, lingering on northern slopes. Winds will pick up at the island’s extremes. Temperatures will be pleasant and slightly above average.
Gran Canaria
A grey morning in the north will give way to clearing skies. Calima will be noticeable across the summit and southern parts until high clouds arrive after midday. Afternoon temperatures are set to climb.
Lanzarote
Low clouds will hang over the west, while the rest of the island sees light calima. The wind will be most noticeable on the eastern side. In Arrecife, expect temperatures between 18°C and 26°C.
Fuerteventura
Strong gusts are forecast for the south. Low clouds will stick to the western half, while the rest of the island sees calima and passing high clouds. Temperatures will range from 18°C to 28°C.
La Palma
Mostly clear, with a few low clouds possible in the north. Only a faint trace of calima. Winds will strengthen at the island’s tips. Temperatures will sit between 17°C and 23°C.
La Gomera
Low clouds will stay confined to the north, with high clouds arriving later in the day. The west and east coasts may see strong gusts, especially in the afternoon. Temperatures will rise a little further.
El Hierro
Cloud cover will lower and stall over the north. High clouds will appear around midday. Temperatures will range between 14°C and 18°C, and the wind will pick up as the afternoon progresses.
La Graciosa
Low clouds will linger for most of the day, with clear spells during the midday hours. Winds will come from the northwest, and temperatures will remain steady.
