Gusty trade winds and a rough Atlantic on Thursday
Thursday will follow the same pattern we’ve seen in recent days: low clouds hanging over the northern slopes early and late, with a very low chance of rain. No fog is expected near Tenerife North Airport. The clouds will also spread across much of the north and west of the eastern islands. Higher ground and southern areas will stay largely clear, especially during the midday hours.
The trade winds continue to blow strongly, with gusts exceeding 70–80 km/h in exposed spots: the peaks and tips of the more mountainous islands, the Tenerife metropolitan area, and the centre and south of Lanzarote. Temperatures may rise slightly in the western islands, while remaining stable elsewhere.
At sea, expect a mixed swell with waves over 2.5 metres off northern coasts and in the channels between islands. Southern coasts will see a rough ocean.
Island by island
Tenerife: No fog at the north airport. Low clouds will thin out during the morning, leaving mostly clear skies. Strong gusts on the exposed tips of the island.
Gran Canaria: Significant gusts in La Aldea de San Nicolás, and on the other side in Agüimes and Ingenio. Clouds return to the north, while the south enjoys sunshine. Temperatures unchanged.
Lanzarote: The centre and south continue to feel strong gusts. Clouds in the north and west, clearing towards the capital. Temperatures between 19°C and 25°C.
Fuerteventura: Moderate trade winds with compact clouds at dawn, then clearing, especially in the east. Temperatures in Puerto del Rosario will range from 19°C to 26°C.
La Palma: Gusts approaching 80 km/h in the northwest, southeast and on the summit. Clouds in the northeast, otherwise clear and slightly warmer temperatures.
La Gomera: Strong winds on the tips and interior. Clouds in the north, clear in the south. Temperatures in the capital will be between 20°C and 25°C.
El Hierro: More clouds in the morning than at midday. Strong gusts on the tips. Temperatures ranging from 14°C to 17°C.
La Graciosa: Low cloud cover from early morning, thinning as the day progresses. The wind will blow strongly, affecting the ocean conditions.
