The Canary Islands are set for another fiercely hot day this Tuesday, with Saharan dust settling over the archipelago and temperatures climbing well into the high 30s in the east. Calima will be most noticeable at ground level in Fuerteventura and Lanzarote, where the heat is expected to bite hardest.
General conditions
Skies will be largely clear, though some scattered clouds will linger along the lower northern coasts of the mountainous islands, generally below 300–500 metres. Local afternoon clouds will build over the interior of the central islands, with the odd spot of rain not ruled out later in the day.

Gran Canaria
Clear skies apart from a few intervals on the northern coast. Calima in the air. Light northerly winds on the coast, strengthening through the afternoon, particularly in the southeast and northwest. The south and northern mid-altitudes will reach 34ºC, with the south, southeast and west locally topping 38ºC. Warm overnight in the southeast, and a high of 30ºC in the capital.
Lanzarote
Clear skies with significant calima at ground level. Light northerly winds, stronger inland. Haría, the east and the south will reach or pass 34ºC, while eastern areas and Arrecife could locally exceed 38ºC, with warm overnight lows.
Fuerteventura
Clear skies with calima, thickest at ground level. Light northerly winds picking up in southern Jandía and inland. Inland and eastern areas will reach or locally pass 38ºC, with warm overnight lows. The capital is expected to peak around 37ºC.
La Palma
Cloudy intervals along the northern coast and local afternoon clouds inland. Elsewhere, clear with calima. Light northerly winds on the coast. Inland and western areas could locally reach 34ºC, while Santa Cruz de La Palma will range from 23ºC to 31ºC.
La Gomera
Mostly clear, with a few intervals at low levels in the north. Calima. Light northerly winds on the coast, strengthening in the afternoon. Inland areas, the south and the capital could exceed 34ºC, with overnight lows staying high.
El Hierro
Clear or mostly clear, with intervals in the north. Calima. Light northerly winds picking up through the afternoon. Inland and eastern areas could reach 34ºC.
