Booking for the Imserso 2026-2027 travel season opens in Canarias on 16 September at 9am. The Ministry of Social Rights, Consumer Affairs and the 2030 Agenda is offering a total of 879,213 places this time around, of which 228,142 (25.9%) correspond to the island coast — the category that covers the archipelago.

How places are shared out between the two provinces

Not all of those places will be available to Canarias, however. Each province is assigned a number of trips for each destination in proportion to the number of residents aged over 65 who are registered there. In Santa Cruz de Tenerife, 19.05% of the population is above that age; in Las Palmas the figure is not far behind at 17.39%.

As a result, during the first few days, until 18 September, accredited travellers will only be able to book trips corresponding to the province in which they are registered.

Staggered sales to protect the booking system

At a press conference, the Minister for Social Rights, Pablo Bustinduy, explained that the aim is to stagger sales in order to avoid possible overload of the booking centres run by the contracting companies and so guarantee that they function correctly.

Wednesday 16 September will therefore be the turn of users with preferential accreditation; Thursday 17, those with non-preferential accreditation. On Friday 18, any accredited person in Canarias will be able to take up trips that remain unreserved within the islands’ quota. It is from Saturday 19 that the field really opens up: from that day, places left unsold in any province can be booked, a process that will remain open throughout the whole season.

Which website to use — and the four-digit key you may need first

One of the issues surrounding online bookings is that not all of them are made on the same website. Trips in Lot 2, corresponding to the Island Coast — Canarias and the Balearics — are managed through the official Mundicolor website, while those in Lot 1 (Peninsular Coast) and Lot 3 (Getaway and Inland Tourism) are handled through Turismo Social.

Canary residents will therefore have to book through Mundicolor or go to an authorised travel agency, where it is enough to present the holder’s ID card. There is also another small piece of paperwork worth sorting out before booking online. Before 16 September, Imserso sends an accreditation key of four digits by post. If it has not arrived, a duplicate must be requested through the Imserso Electronic Office before sales begin.

Flat €50 rate expanded after first season success

Of the total places available, Social Rights has set aside 7,447 places at €50, a flat rate introduced for the first time last season in order to prevent pensioners on the lowest incomes from being excluded from these trips. A total of 5,221 people took up this reduced rate in its first year in force. According to the ministry, this figure contrasts with the previous season, when a similar measure existed in the form of a 50% discount on the total price of the trip, under which only 523 places were taken up.

The measure is especially important in Canarias, where more than 41,700 people receive non-contributory pensions, with an average amount of around €652 in the islands. For those who meet the requirements, a holiday can come down to €50.

Supplements, single rooms and booking limits

Various supplements must be added to these prices in certain cases. Anyone wanting a single room will have to pay around €22 per night.

During the first days of sales, between 16 and 18 September, each accredited person will only be able to book a single trip per file during this provincial quota sales phase. In other words, it will not be possible to log on on the first day and come away with several trips confirmed. For that, you will have to wait until 19 September, when access to leftover places from other provincial quotas opens up. From then on the margin will be greater and availability will depend, as always, on what is left.

From the second booking of the season, an additional €100 will apply. That is, the programme allows more than one trip during the campaign, but doing so carries an added cost compared with the first booking.

Pets on coastal trips and the fine print on transport

Among this season’s new features is the possibility of travelling with pets in the coastal lots, both peninsular and island. This does not mean that any hotel or any form of transport automatically accepts pets. The option will be subject to the availability of adapted establishments and to the rules applied to air or sea transport.

For those who want to travel from Canarias to the mainland — Lot 1 — or to the Balearics — Lot 2 — with transport included, there is one final point worth being clear about before starting to look for a destination. Charter flights or transport places assigned from Gran Canaria (LPA) and Tenerife North (TFN) airports are tied to specific destinations and to the operational connections planned within the programme. What is more, if you are looking for a town that does not have a guaranteed direct air connection within the programme, the search must be carried out under the no-transport option and the air travel arranged independently.

Places spread across the whole season to avoid a rush

Imserso will distribute 36% of the places in each lot proportionally across all the months of the campaign. The idea is to prevent the programme from becoming a race towards a few weeks of the year and to spread demand. “De-seasonalise tourism, maintain activity and employment throughout the year and reduce overcrowding in the periods of highest occupancy,” says Bustinduy.
