Canary Islands public holidays 2027: full calendar

The Canary Islands’ working calendar for 2027 will once again be shaped by a combination of national, regional and island holidays, to which each municipality’s own local festivities will be added. The Canary Islands Government has also confirmed the recovery of days lost in previous years – those that fell on a Sunday and were not moved to the Monday – meaning that next year residents across the archipelago will be able to count on 15 non-working days.

Some of these will be common to the whole of the Canary Islands, while others will depend on the island or municipality in which you live, so it is worth checking the relevant calendar to find out all the days off. Below is a practical guide to the forthcoming long weekends and rest days, so you can plan your getaways well in advance.

Common holidays across the Canary Islands

Twelve days off apply throughout the archipelago, combining national and Canarian holidays:

  • 1 January – New Year’s Day
  • 6 January – Epiphany
  • 25 March – Maundy Thursday
  • 26 March – Good Friday
  • 1 May – Labour Day
  • 30 May – Canary Islands Day
  • 16 August – Assumption of the Virgin (the feast falls on Sunday 15 August and is moved to the Monday)
  • 12 October – Spain’s National Day
  • 1 November – All Saints’ Day
  • 6 December – Constitution Day
  • 8 December – Immaculate Conception
  • 25 December – Christmas Day

Island holidays: one extra day for each island

In addition to the 12 regional holidays, the Canary Islands add one further day for each island, coinciding with the feast day of its patron saint. These are the island holidays:

  • Tenerife – 2 February (Virgen de Candelaria)
  • La Palma – 5 August (Nuestra Señora de Las Nieves)
  • Gran Canaria – 8 September (Nuestra Señora del Pino)
  • Lanzarote and La Graciosa – 15 September (Nuestra Señora de Los Volcanes)
  • Fuerteventura – 17 September (Nuestra Señora de la Peña)
  • El Hierro – 24 September (Descent of the Virgen de los Reyes)
  • La Gomera – 4 October (Nuestra Señora de Guadalupe)

Municipal holidays: two days for every town

Each of the 88 municipalities in the archipelago also sets two days of its own for local festivities, which completes the list of 15 non-working days for every resident. The local holiday dates for each council are set out below, island by island.

Tenerife

Long weekends and bridge days in 2027

The way the dates fall in 2027 is fairly generous for anyone planning time off. These are the best opportunities:

  • New Year’s Day on a Friday – 1 January falls on a Friday, so the year opens with a three-day weekend.
  • Easter – 25 and 26 March are Thursday and Friday, giving four days off without using any leave.
  • The recovered August day – the Assumption falls on Sunday 15 August and moves to Monday 16 August. In previous years this day would simply have been lost.
  • National Day on a Tuesday – 12 October falls on a Tuesday, so a single day of leave on Monday 11 October creates a four-day break. Residents of Adeje get this one for free: 11 October is their local Santa Úrsula holiday.
  • All Saints’ Day on a Monday – 1 November rounds off a three-day weekend.
  • The December bridge – the best opportunity of the year. With 6 December (Monday) and 8 December (Wednesday) both off, a single day of leave on Tuesday 7 December produces five consecutive days off, from Saturday 4 to Wednesday 8 December.

Worth noting: 1 May and 25 December both fall on Saturdays in 2027, and Canary Islands Day (30 May) falls on a Sunday, so those three do not add extra days off.
