A hidden gem in Anaga
Tenerife is home to several establishments steeped in history that keep the spirit of traditional Canarian cooking very much alive. One such place is Casa Paca, a restaurant tucked away in a quiet corner of the Anaga Rural Park, where time-honoured recipes are served up to delighted diners, winning them over with every single bite.
Content creators @guachinchesmodernos recently paid the establishment a visit and were quick to share their culinary experience with their followers. “This place is a classic for good, home-cooked food in the Anaga area,” they said. Casa Paca has been part of Tenerife’s gastronomic offering for several decades now, and during their visit, the couple spoke with one of the people linked to the establishment, who explained that it boasts a history of around 45 years. Despite the passage of time, it has managed to preserve its essence and remains a firm favourite for both locals and tourists alike.
Dishes not to be missed
Among the dishes that most caught their attention during the visit was the stewed octopus (pulpo guisado), whose texture was singled out for particular praise. “It just falls apart,” they remarked. Another house classic is potas en salsa – squid in sauce – a recipe they highlighted for its aroma and flavour. Rabbit in sauce (conejo en salza) is yet another signature dish of Canarian cuisine and of the establishment itself.
Having finished their meal, they concluded: “Everything is incredible, even the papas arrugadas are top-notch.” One of the restaurant’s strongest selling points, they noted, is that diners can order either a half or full portion of any dish. To round off their lunch in style, they opted for a classic Canarian dessert – quesillo (a local crème caramel) – accompanied by a couple of coffees.
Location and opening hours
Casa Paca is situated at Caserío Benijo, 8, in the hamlet of Benijo, in Santa Cruz de Tenerife. It currently holds a 4.5-star rating on Google, a reflection of the satisfaction felt by those who have visited and savoured its traditional cooking. The restaurant is open every day from 10:00 to 21:00 without interruption, offering both lunch and dinner service to its customers.
