Plátano de Canarias doubles down on La Vuelta sponsorship
Plátano de Canarias, the Canary Islands banana brand, has taken another step in its commitment to sports sponsorship by becoming the official partner of La Vuelta’s Combativity Award. The prize recognises, on each stage, the rider who has done most to entertain the crowd through attacks, breakaways, bids for victory or an especially aggressive racing attitude.
“With this sponsorship we strengthen our presence at a key time for growers, and we do so in one of the most-watched sporting events in Spain. The Combativity Award perfectly represents the values we share with sport: effort, endurance and overcoming challenges,” said Sergio Cáceres, manager and marketing director of Plátano de Canarias.
A prize decided by the fans
The Combativity Award singles out, stage by stage, the rider whose determination defines the character of the day: effort, stamina and discipline in the service of the spectacle. Unlike other classifications, this recognition is decided by popular vote; fans vote daily for their most combative rider, turning the prize into a direct link between the public and the race.
That daily voting mechanic places Plátano de Canarias in an environment of maximum audience and public interaction, in one of the most-followed sporting events of the calendar, with daily presence in the broadcast of every stage throughout the three weeks of competition.
Three weeks of national and international exposure
La Vuelta is considered the biggest sporting event under the “Marca España” banner, a platform for national and international projection that this year 2026 will start in Monaco on Saturday 22 August and finish on Sunday 13 September in Granada, after 21 stages. This framework of maximum exposure makes the sponsorship a natural opportunity to connect with millions of sports fans across Spain.
