Another change on the way for Tenerife

The weather in Tenerife is set to shift once again this Wednesday, with temperatures climbing and winds strengthening in various parts of the island. The State Meteorological Agency (Aemet) is forecasting a day of cloudy intervals in the north, largely clear skies across most of the territory, and highs reaching 31ºC in Santa Cruz de Tenerife.

The increase will be most noticeable in the mid-altitude areas (medianías), where maximum temperatures will rise slightly. Minimum temperatures will also edge up, with the increase potentially moderate in the higher mid-altitude zones.

Cloud, sun and stronger winds

In the north of Tenerife, cloudy intervals will dominate, although clear spells will open up during the afternoon. Elsewhere on the island, skies are expected to remain largely clear.

Wind will be one of the standout features of the day. In low-lying areas, a light northeasterly breeze will prevail, with sea breezes dominant along the coasts, though winds will strengthen to moderate in the eastern and southern slopes during the afternoon.

The situation will be different on Tenerife’s central peaks. There, Aemet predicts strong southwesterly winds, with the possibility of very strong gusts during the central hours of the day. Later, the wind will veer to a westerly direction.

Capital set to be warmest spot

The island’s capital will record one of the highest temperatures forecast for Tenerife, with a minimum of 22ºC and a maximum of 31ºC.

Outlook across the rest of the Canary Islands

Elsewhere in the archipelago, rising temperatures will also be the general trend, although with differences between islands. Gran Canaria will see highs of 27ºC in Las Palmas de Gran Canaria, while Lanzarote and Fuerteventura will reach 28ºC.

On La Gomera, San Sebastián will hit 28ºC; Santa Cruz de La Palma will see a maximum of 27ºC, and Valverde on El Hierro will stay at 25ºC.

Gran Canaria will have cloudy skies in the north, with clear spells breaking through by the afternoon, while the rest of the island will remain mostly clear or partly cloudy. Minimum temperatures will rise slightly and winds will be moderate from the north, occasionally strong.

Lanzarote and Fuerteventura will see cloud cover during the morning, particularly in the north, though skies will tend to become mostly clear by the afternoon. Temperatures will remain largely unchanged.

La Gomera will experience cloudy intervals in the north during the early and late hours, while La Palma will see generally cloudy intervals and slight temperature increases. Finally, El Hierro will have cloudy intervals in the north and mostly clear or sunny skies elsewhere, with slight thermal rises in the southern mid-altitude areas.
