Hilton opens first branded resorts in Tenerife after major renovation

Hilton debuts in Tenerife with reopening of two renovated resorts

Hilton has officially launched its brand in Tenerife with the reopening of two tourist properties, the Royal Sunset Beach Club and the Sunset Harbour Club. Both resort complexes, located in Costa Adeje in the areas of Fañabé and Torviscas respectively, have been fully renovated and modernised following the American chain’s acquisition of the sites from Diamond Resorts. The company held an official ribbon-cutting ceremony on Wednesday to mark the start of this new chapter for the two establishments. They are the first Hilton Grand Vacations properties in the Canary Islands to fully adopt the company’s branding.

Part of a wider international expansion

The transformation is part of a broader initiative to rebrand up to 14 properties across Europe as the group strengthens its international expansion. The deal completes a process that began in 2021, when Hilton acquired the Diamond Resorts chain in a transaction valued at €1.2 billion. The purchase allowed the prestigious American brand to significantly expand its international portfolio and take on nine properties in the Canary Islands, six of them in Tenerife. In the years that followed, the complexes continued to operate under their former names while the company prepared their renovation and gradual integration into the Hilton Grand Vacations brand. Royal Sunset Beach Club and Sunset Harbour Club now represent the first visible result of that process in the archipelago. The company expects to complete the renovation of three more properties in its Tenerife portfolio shortly.

What each resort offers

Royal Sunset Beach Club, situated on Playa de Fañabé, has 126 apartments, a heated outdoor swimming pool, a gym, a wellness area, a poolside bar, and various services primarily aimed at families and guests on extended stays. Sunset Harbour Club, located in Pueblo Torviscas, offers a further 124 apartments, along with pools, a restaurant, a bar, a gym, a children’s playground, and a solarium. Both resorts are close to the seafront promenade and some of the main beaches and shopping areas in Costa Adeje.

Holiday ownership model remains

The properties retain the holiday ownership or timeshare model characteristic of Hilton Grand Vacations. This system allows members to access accommodation and services within the company’s network periodically, although some of the apartments can also be marketed through conventional tourism channels. Hilton Grand Vacations, headquartered in Orlando, Florida (USA), is the exclusive partner of Hilton in the holiday ownership business. The company develops, markets, and manages resort complexes in various international destinations and claims to have more than 720,000 members in its programmes.

High-profile opening ceremony

The opening ceremony was attended by the company’s executive vice-president and head of Customer Service, Derek De Salvia; the senior vice-president of Resort Operations, Kevin Speidel; and the senior vice-president for Europe, Suzana Gomercic. Also present were the vice-president of the Cabildo (island council) and island councillor for Tourism, Lope Afonso; the CEO of Turismo de Tenerife, Dimple Melwani; and representatives from Adeje Town Council. De Salvia noted that the opening is a milestone for the company, as it marks the debut of its first Hilton-branded resorts in Tenerife and kicks off the transformation of its European portfolio.

Local leaders welcome investment

For its part, the Cabildo sees the move as a sign of Tenerife’s ability to attract international investment and consolidate tourism projects with a long-term vision. Afonso argued that the arrival of the company goes beyond a simple name change and represents a commitment to investment, customer experience, and the renewal of the island’s offering. Melwani linked the reopenings to the island’s strategy of improving its accommodation stock and attracting international brands capable of raising the quality and competitiveness of the destination. The inauguration does not, therefore, represent a fresh start for the company in Tenerife, as the properties were already part of the portfolio acquired from Diamond Resorts. However, it does mark the definitive transfer of these assets into the structure and commercial identity of Hilton Grand Vacations. With two resorts already renovated, three more awaiting transformation in Tenerife, and a rebranding programme set to reach up to 14 European properties, the company is strengthening its commitment to the Canary Islands as one of the strategic markets for its growth in Europe.
