Festival recruitment drive attracts 2,500 applicants
The Tenerife Cook Music Fest has begun the recruitment process for its 2026 edition, drawing an impressive response from jobseekers across the island. A total of 2,500 people, who had previously registered via an online form, attended a selection day held on Saturday 20 June at the Plaza de España in Santa Cruz de Tenerife. From this process, the 600 staff members who will work at the festival will be chosen. The event is scheduled to take place on 16, 17 and 18 July in the port area of the Tenerife capital.
Young jobseekers flock to selection event
The selection day ran from 10:00 to 18:00 and brought together applicants, event organisers and partner organisations in one space. According to data provided by the organisers, the majority of those registered are aged between 18 and 25. This demographic profile positions the recruitment drive as one of the most significant youth employment opportunities linked to major events this summer in the Canary Islands.
The hiring process aims to fill a wide variety of roles related to the running of the festival. Positions on offer include waiters, hostesses, production staff, office workers and festival crew. Events of this scale require an extensive workforce to handle setup, public-facing duties, logistics, catering, coordination, technical support and auxiliary services. Although many of these jobs are tied to specific dates, they offer young people and active jobseekers a first taste of working in the events, hospitality or cultural production sectors.
Local employment boost for Tenerife
The festival’s promoter, José María de la Cova, underlined the employment impact of the event and highlighted that a significant portion of the jobs will remain on Tenerife. He explained that behind every concert there are hundreds of people working on the island. The Deputy Minister for the Presidency of the Government of the Canary Islands, Alfonso Cabello, noted that the 2,500 registrations reflect the interest that this kind of event generates among Tenerife’s working-age population. Cabello also pointed out that for many of the young people selected, this opportunity could be their first contact with the labour market. The experience is especially valuable in sectors where hands-on learning and direct interaction with the public are essential parts of the job. The high turnout at the Plaza de España also underscores the existing demand among young people looking for seasonal summer work or experience in culture and leisure activities.
Economic impact and visitor attraction
The CEO of Turismo de Tenerife, Dimple Melwani, stressed that the festival helps position the island as a destination capable of hosting large-scale events. She also noted that such occasions generate employment opportunities, especially among young people. The Tenerife Cook Music Fest 2026 is expected to attract more than 80,000 attendees across its three days. This volume of visitors has a direct impact on sectors including hospitality, transport, retail, security, technical production and event-related services. With the festival taking place in the port area of Santa Cruz, it is set to boost the urban economy, both through direct job creation and the movement of visitors around the city.
The Secretary General of Zona Centro, Carlos Sabina, said that initiatives of this kind help drive economic and commercial activity in the centre of Santa Cruz. According to him, major events help consolidate a commercial area that is active, competitive and attractive. In a similar vein, the Councillor for the Centro District of Santa Cruz de Tenerife City Council, Purificación Dávila, noted that the festival can attract visitors and generate opportunities for local shops and hospitality businesses.
Connecting jobseekers with employers
The selection day also served to bridge the gap between company needs and individuals looking for a job opportunity. This direct contact allows applicants to learn about the profiles in demand and enables the organisation to recruit staff according to the specific requirements of the event. The CEO of the Sociedad de Desarrollo of Santa Cruz de Tenerife, Carmen Pérez, explained that her agency’s participation is part of an effort to turn major events held in the city into direct engines of employment. The aim is to connect the business community with jobseekers and facilitate recruitment processes linked to activities with local economic impact. In this case, the collaboration helped manage a call that brought thousands of people to the Tenerife capital.
Line-up and scale of the 2026 festival
The selection day was organised with the support of the Government of the Canary Islands, Santa Cruz de Tenerife City Council, Zona Centro Santa Cruz, the Sociedad de Desarrollo and FAUCA. The recruitment of 600 people reflects the anticipated scale of the Tenerife Cook Music Fest 2026. The festival will run for three days, from 16 to 18 July, at the venue in the Port of Santa Cruz de Tenerife. The official line-up includes artists such as Don Omar, Chayanne, Myke Towers, Lola Índigo, Elvis Crespo and Luis Enrique, among other names from the Latin and popular music scenes. With an anticipated attendance of more than 80,000, the 2026 edition is shaping up to be one of the major musical events of the summer in the Canary Islands, both for its line-up and for the sheer volume of staff required to make it happen.
