A spring weekend with plenty of cloud but little rain
The second weekend of May brings plenty of cloud cover to many parts of the Canary Islands, though significantly less rain than in recent days.
On Saturday, expect thick cloud around the 1,500-metre mark, particularly on the northern and eastern slopes of the more mountainous islands. The western sides — and most of the eastern islands — will enjoy clearer skies. Any light drizzle may occur in the north early in the day, or from local afternoon clouds in the southeast.
Temperatures remain stable with no major changes. Winds are light from the west, shifting to the southwest by Sunday. The Atlantic will turn slightly rougher: waves reach around 2–2.5 metres off northern coasts, and about 1 metre along the southern shores.
Tenerife
Cloud at around 1,500 metres in the north early on, with a possible light drop or two. Later in the day, local clouds build over the mid-elevations of the southeast. The south-southwest coast stays clear.
Gran Canaria
The west of the island will be the clearest. Abundant cloud in the north and east, with a chance of a few drops. Temperatures range between 18°C and 21°C.
Lanzarote
A day with plenty of sunshine and slightly warmer temperatures. In Arrecife, expect lows of 17°C and highs of 25°C. No wind to speak of.
Fuerteventura
Mostly clear skies, especially after midday. Calm conditions with no wind. In Puerto del Rosario, temperatures sit between 17°C and 23°C.
La Palma
Cloud clears in the morning, but local afternoon clouds develop on the eastern slopes. No rain expected, and the wind eases. Temperatures similar to previous days.
La Gomera
Low cloud sits over the north at first, leaving the rest clear. As the day progresses, cloud spreads across the interior and eastern half due to local development. Light wind.
El Hierro
Less cloud than elsewhere. Mornings may be cloudier, but plenty of sunny spells follow. Temperatures in Valverde range from 11°C to 18°C.
La Graciosa
A few light clouds early on, which quickly clear. Temperatures remain much the same. No wind. The ocean will worsen slightly compared to recent days.
