Half portions that are anything but small
In Tenerife, some restaurants are known for their culinary craftsmanship, while others stand out for the generous portions they serve. In the town of San Cristóbal de La Laguna, you’ll find La Pedrera de Cho’Camilo – a place that has become an essential stop because its half portions are absolutely enormous. Content creators @guachinchesmodernos paid a visit and were quick to share their experience with followers. ‘This place is famous for its portions,’ they said. ‘Order a half portion and you’ll see they’re enormous – and the price is insane.’
A taste of Canarian home cooking
The menu focuses on Canarian cuisine and grilled meats, with home-style recipes and locally sourced ingredients. During their visit, the creators opted for the lentil stew – ‘super delicious’, they said. They also tried the house speciality: mushrooms ‘La Pedrera’, which ‘have a really tasty marinade’, and the ‘Cho Camilo’ prawns. The beef churrasco left them impressed by its sheer size. ‘I think we’ll be taking food home today – there’s no way we can finish all this,’ they remarked in their video. To round things off, they enjoyed a slice of grandma’s cake and a passion fruit dessert, putting the perfect finishing touch to a meal they had already experienced on a previous visit.
A family-run favourite for 18 years
La Pedrera de Cho’Camilo has been open for 18 years and prides itself on a friendly, family-style approach to its customers. The portion sizes are one of its biggest draws – they impress from the very first visit. It also stands out for its rustic aesthetic, decorated with ‘thousands of antiques’, as the creators described it. ‘You’ve never seen half portions bigger than these,’ they said after trying several dishes, adding that it’s worth letting the staff guide your choices.
Practical information and visitor tips
The restaurant has no private parking, and parking in the area is difficult. There is also no card terminal or Bizum, and ‘mobile reception is patchy around here,’ the creators warn. La Pedrera de Cho’Camilo is located at Camino de la Milagrosa, 20, in 20A Ortigal Alto, next to the church. It holds a 4.5-star rating on Google, reflecting the satisfaction of customers who have visited and enjoyed the generous half portions. Open Monday to Friday for lunch from 12:00 to 18:00. The restaurant is closed on Saturdays, Sundays and public holidays to give staff a break.
