A cooler start to the week

The new week begins with a marked drop in temperatures across the Canary Islands. Daytime highs will be considerably lower, especially in lowland areas. A moderate westerly wind will blow, with stronger intervals expected on southeastern and northwestern slopes, as well as the peaks of the higher islands.

Island-by-island forecast for Monday

Tenerife

More compact cloud cover in the north and east, clearing to scattered clouds by midday. Mostly clear skies elsewhere. The Saharan dust haze will ease. A westerly wind is forecast, with probable very strong gusts exceeding 70 km/h in Las Cañadas del Teide during the early hours. Temperatures will see a notable drop.

Gran Canaria

Cloudy in the north and southwest during the morning, clearing by midday. Mostly clear elsewhere. The calima will decrease through the afternoon. A westerly wind will pick up speed in the extreme southeast and northwest. Cool temperatures are expected.

Lanzarote

Scattered clouds in the north and west, clearing around midday. Mostly clear skies elsewhere. The calima will be persistent. A moderate westerly wind and cooler temperatures, most noticeable in the west.

Fuerteventura

Variable cloud cover on western slopes in the morning. The calima will persist throughout the day. A moderate westerly wind. Temperatures will fall, most noticeably in the west.

La Palma

Cloudy on the western side with breaks around noon. Mostly clear elsewhere. Calima in retreat. A moderate westerly wind, with strong gusts not ruled out in the far south. Temperatures in decline.

La Gomera

Cloudy skies in the morning, especially in the north and west, clearing by midday. Mostly clear elsewhere. The calima will ease in the afternoon. A westerly wind and falling temperatures.

El Hierro

Cloudy in the north and west. Mostly clear or sunny elsewhere. Calima in retreat. A moderate westerly wind and much cooler temperatures.

La Graciosa

Cloudy skies first thing, tending to mostly clear. A westerly wind and significant calima. Temperatures will drop.

Maritime conditions

An ocean swell from the northwest will prevail on coasts exposed to the north. The north and west coasts of La Palma, La Gomera, and El Hierro will see combined seas with waves that could reach 2 metres. Other coastal areas will experience a rough ocean.
