Arona Inaugurates New Beachfront Square in El Palm-Mar
Arona Council has inaugurated the new public square at the beachfront in El Palm-Mar. This prime coastal location expands the areas for residents and visitors to relax and socialise, while also improving the pedestrian connection to the seafront promenade.
A Commitment to Improved Public Spaces
The Mayor of Arona, Fátima Lemes Reverón, highlighted that “we continue to improve the public spaces in the municipality with projects that make a noticeable difference to daily life: greater accessibility, more meeting areas, and a coastline that is better cared for and more enjoyable for residents and visitors.” Lemes added that “El Palm-Mar gains a space designed for community, for strolling and for enjoying the surroundings, with a square that integrates into the coast and reinforces the urban quality of the area.”
Design Focused on Accessibility and Daily Use
The square is situated just metres from the sea and has been conceived as a point for daily use, with a design that prioritises spaciousness, accessibility, and pedestrian movement in a safe and comfortable environment. The space incorporates landscaped areas with vegetation adapted to the coastal climate, rest areas with street furniture, efficient lighting, and a layout prepared to host outdoor cultural and social activities.
Enhancing the Maritime Front
The Councillor for Urban Planning, Javier Baute, stated that “this is an intervention that organises and improves the maritime front, creating a modern, accessible public space connected to the promenade.” Baute added that “this project is part of the roadmap set by the council within the framework of land reception, and has been made possible thanks to the work of the Land Management and Planning team, the involvement of colleagues, and public-private collaboration, which is essential for projects like this to move forward.”
He further explained that “the square has been designed to integrate into the coastal environment, with solutions that prioritise pedestrians and sustainability criteria in materials and maintenance.”
A Sustainable and Integrated Project
The project, whose contract was formalised on 26 March 2026, has materialised as an intervention that strengthens the maritime front of the area and adds a new public space in a growing zone. The new square integrates into the coastal environment and includes elements with a sustainable focus, such as permeable paving and measures aimed at saving water in maintenance, in addition to its contribution to the daily life of the neighbourhood and the use of public space.
With this opening, Arona Council expands the public spaces of the municipality on the coastline, improving the urban environment of El Palm-Mar and its direct connection to the coast.
